Mere Mortals reimagines the legend of Pandora's Jar through the urgent, unsettling lens of artificial intelligence. Commissioned as a world premiere for Artistic Director Tamara Rojo's inaugural season, this is a ballet that doesn't ask you to sit back and admire — it demands that you feel, question, and reckon.
Visionary choreographer Aszure Barton brings her singular imagination to a score by Floating Points, performing live alongside the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra at every performance. The result is something altogether rare: electronic music and orchestral power, festival energy and classical precision, all fused into a breathtaking, fully immersive sensory experience.
In a city defined by disruption and innovation, Mere Mortals is a provocation — a gorgeous, fearless reckoning with progress, creativity, and the fragile, extraordinary human spirit. You will feel this long after the curtain falls.
